Butter Leather Y Harness

The Y Harness is designed to sit along the chest and shoulders, not the neck, allowing your dog to move freely without restriction.

Step 1: Identify where the harness sits
The front of the harness forms a "Y" shape on the chest. The top strap sits just above the shoulders, and the bottom strap wraps around the chest, behind the front legs. This means you need to measure the chest (girth), not just the neck.

Step 2: Measure the chest
Using a soft measuring tape, wrap it around the widest part of your dog's chest — right behind the front legs. Make sure the tape is straight and level all the way around, and that it is not slipping up toward the neck.

Step 3: Check the fit allowance
The tape should be snug but not tight. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably under the tape. This ensures no rubbing under the legs, enough space for movement, and a secure but comfortable fit.

Step 4: Optional — Check the upper chest area
For more accuracy, especially for slim dogs, also measure around the upper chest at the base of the neck. This is where the top of the "Y" sits and helps confirm the harness will not slide too high or too low.

Step 5: Compare with the size chart
Use the chest measurement from Step 2 as your main reference. If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort and adjustability.

Tips for a proper fit:
Measure while your dog is standing naturally. The harness should sit flat on the chest, not press into the neck, and not rub under the front legs. A properly fitted Y harness will show a clean "Y" shape on the chest, a straight line along the body, and no twisting or pulling.
